And so begins one of the greatest adventure stories of, well, ever. The Hobbit, Or There And Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien has been loved by generation upon generation of children, teens and adults since it was first published in 1937. What adventure! What excitement! What glory and treasure and fun! And now it is coming to a theater near you in movie format!
The place is Middle Earth. The time is tea time. The door is Bilbo Baggins'. And now it has a big scratch on it. Hobbit Bilbo Baggins is minding his own business when adventure comes along and smacks him in the face. In short order, he meets 13 dwarves and a slightly intimidating wizard who enlist him to accompany them into the wild and dangerous world in search of dragon gold. And Bilbo is the honored burglar who is going to...burgle it. Before he knows exactly how it happened, he is marching off into the strangest and most exciting days of his mild-mannered life. Who knows if he will ever see his lovely little hobbit-hole again?
As Gandalf the great wizard said to nervous little Bilbo Baggins, "I am looking for someone to share in an adventure I'm arranging, and it's very difficult to find anyone." Step right up, be that guy/girl. Don't be a chicken, go along for the adventure!
And in true hobbit fashion, "May the hair on your toes never fall out!"
P.S. I'm going to see the movie tomorrow night. Super excited! Any thoughts from people who have already seen it?
